The spacious and quirky Italian restaurant Lavanderia Vecchia in Neukölln hosts a series of Special dinners on various nights of the week. As soon as you turn the corner off of Flughafenstraße you’re directed to the entrance by hanging laundry throughout the corridor, hence the name. Once inside you’re greeted by the same cloths draping from lines from wall to wall and sounds of the dishes clinking as you see chefs bustling around the open kitchen.
We gathered along with a group of women from Girls Gone International to enjoy that evening’s 90’s themed dinner. The evening included four courses (salad, brioche, risotto and dessert), a glass of wine and a headset to listen to top hits from the 90’s as a smoke machine set an authentic mood. There were breaks from the music in between courses to give guests an opportunity for quick convos and just before each course the MC explained the contents of the dish that was about to hit the table.
Despite the restaurant running out of the main course before every guest was served (they kindly offered tuna steak instead), the trouble of constantly exchanging dying headsets and way too many songs in a row by Jamiroquai, the dinner was a unique way to get friends together to reminisce over the hits from the era of scrunchies and track suits. We recommend attending with people you’re already acquainted with as there isn’t a lot of opportunity for talking since the music is only heard through the headsets. Lavendaria Vecchia’s next event is a Magic dinner with six courses featuring a show by Alexander Merk. Reservations are required!
